Whoever said reflexes are a good thing?
I admit, they can be helpful-- like pulling back when you touch a hot stove.
They can also be harmful.
Especially when they cause you to dive off a picnic table onto a cement floor.
I know-- I'm not always the brightest. In my defense, though, there was a giant water balloon coming straight for my head. Escaping the balloon was the only thing going through my mind at the time.
It didn't help either that I was wearing these shoes:
The result was that my right knee and foot decided to become better acquainted with the cement floor. My second toe on my right foot bruised and swelled up. It's either 1)bruised, 2)dislocated, or 3)broken. We'll see what tale Monday has to tell about that.
Of course, what would be the fun of getting wounded without showing off my injuries? If you don't like that type of pictures, you're welcome to stop now.
This is my left (uninjured) foot, for perspective:
Here's the right foot. The swollen toe is the second from the left, if you couldn't already tell.
And here's the shiner on my knee:
And that's the story of why reflexes are not always helpful. So be careful next time someone throws a water balloon at you-- you might end up with a broken toe!
