A Baby For Becky

Today I want to share an opportunity for you to help someone in need-- our friend, Becky Soderquist.

I first met Becky at Timpview High School, where I was impressed by how kind and cheerful she always was.  She knew my sisters first, but was quick to befriend me and make me feel included.  I really appreciated her kindness, as I was very shy.

Fast forward a few years and Spencer and I are now happily married and enjoying Spencer's position as a hall advisor for BYU.  Becky, coincidentally, is also a hall advisor.  She's a great hall advisor and a very loving mother to her daughter, Julia.

Becky struggles with infertility.  It's a surprisingly common problem-- 1 in 10 couples will struggle with infertility.  It's a very heartbreaking, exhausting, and expensive disease.  Becky will either need special treatments to help her become pregnant, or she will need to adopt.  Both are very expensive.

Becky is selling some beautiful resurrection-themed easter eggs to help raise the money for a baby.  The eggs are made of the finest quality materials and contain scriptures from the Easter story and items that represent those scriptures.  They are a wonderful way to teach young children the story and meaning of Christ's resurrection.  I haven't had a chance to see these eggs yet, but we have a simpler version that we love.  All proceeds from these eggs will go directly to Becky's baby fund.

If you are able to, please consider buying a set of these eggs to help Becky.  It would mean a lot to her and us.  This is something that is very near and dear to my heart because we have also been struggling with infertility.  I know firsthand how difficult, painful, and expensive infertility is.  Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated.

You can purchase the resurrection eggs here: http://traditionswetreasure.com/product/easter-story-eggs/.

If you can't afford the full price, you can donate any amount to help Becky here: http://traditionswetreasure.com/product/baby-becky-fundraiser/

Please consider donating, even if it's just a dollar or two.  Every little bit helps.

If you really can't afford to donate anything, please don't feel pressured.  I understand that not everyone is at a point where they can spare the money.  But, I would ask that you at least spread the word and let people know about the Resurrection eggs.  It's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the true spirit of Easter by helping someone in need.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, That  . . . ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy . . . In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Triumph of the Year(s)

(I discovered this post from 2007 that I forgot to ever publish and I decided it was worth publishing now!)

Sunday night was a momentous occasion for me. I did miss my bedtime goal, but I figured it was justified because I finally finished the Old Testament! It probably should have topped my list of goals that stay on every list I have. This acheivement reflects over 2 years worth of work, including suffering through Songs of Solomon (which the elders in my MTC district quickly proclaimed to be scriptural pornography. If you find that surprising, just try a few chapters and see what you think.) and slogging (or snoring?) through chapter upon chapter of "Joseph begat Solomon. Solomon begat Hezekiah. Hezekiah begat Joel. Joel begat . . ." -- but at long last it's done. It was an intense challenge, but it was definitely worth the effort. Now, I'm left with a new question to ponder on: what do I read next?

Highlights of this last General Conference

1. President Hinckley "knighting" President Eyring with his cane after he was called to the First Presidency.

2. Elder Wirthlin showing what it really means to teach by example as he continued his talk on love for at least 10 minutes after he started shaking badly.

3. Getting to see conference in Salt Lake for the first time.

4. Taking Trax for the first time

5. Watching Jacob alternate between tired, confused look and cheesy smile.

6. Finding out who would be the next apostle and member of the First Presidency.

7. Being with the family all day long!

8. Mom's heavenly chocolate cake.

9. Driving up into the canyon afterward to see the leaves and the view of the valley.

Looking back at this conference weekend, we were blessed with a lot of great moments. It's nice to have a conference weekend like that to put things in perspective. Sister Mary N. Cook said that we should strengthen our relationships with our brothers and sisters because they may become our best friends. I'm grateful to know that my best friends are within my family. "For I have no greater joy than to know that my [family] walk in truth." --1 John 1:4
