Paleography

I know many of you have expressed interest in my travels and research out here. And I have to say, it is pretty cool to research in England. After all, how often do you get to hold documents that are older than your nation?

I know. Try not to be jealous.

In fact, I know you're curious about what I've really been doing lately.

So, I'm going to give you a chance to step inside my shoes.

Have you ever tried reading old English handwriting? Now's your chance.
You can try your hand at this game (but don't drown the poor lady!)

Once you've tried that, you can step up a level and try this tutorial.
Just click on Document 1 and then click on the link that says "interactive transcribing exercise." See how many documents you can get through (I got stuck on Document 4-- I could read it, but it was really slow going. In my defense, it has been a year since my paleography class.)

Still jealous?

Someone has a REALLY weird sense of humor. (Obviously I didn't get one right.)

Me neither. And after doing Family Search Indexing, I was feeling pretty good about my skills.

I'm hopeless! Thank goodness we have an expert in the family.
