With the eventfulness of the recent elections, I have pondered, as I'm sure many have, the significance of this change in presidency. To tell the truth, I wasn't extremely impressed with either candidate.
Are these really the best possible candidates our country could come up with? If so, the state of our nation is sad, indeed. In fact, as I considered both candidates, watched/read the news, and listened to the debates, one repeated thought kept coming to my mind. That thought was a phrase from one of my favorite musicals:
Think of
Celebrated Heads of State and especially great communicators.
Did they have brains or knowledge?
Don't make me laugh-- they were popular!
Please!
It's all about popular.
It's not about aptitude-
It's the way you're viewed
So it's very shrewd to be
Very very popular
Like me
I couldn't help feeling that especially with the most recent election, these words rang true. I respect President Obama-- I think he is a good man, who wants to help the nation the best he can-- but does he honestly have the best qualifications to run our country? Or is he just the smoothest talker: the winner of this quadrennial popularity contest?
It's definitely a sobering thought.

Adam's dad mentioned to me once that we have a very image-driven society, and I have realized more and more the truth of it. Well, we can just hope he's up to the task, I guess.
Obama, not Adam's dad, that is.
yeah, i saw a show and they talked about obama's wife's outfit she wore the night they won for about 20 minutes!! Who even cares?!!!
