The House of the Lord

I recently learned that the television station, HBO, is going to air a segment of their Big Love series that imitates LDS temple clothing and ceremonies.

I am sickened by this degredation of our holy temples!

Temples are not a fun-house or amusement park attraction. Temples are the House of the Lord. For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temples are the most sacred sites on earth. Inside our temples, husband and wife can be married for eternity. We also go to the temple to learn more about our Heavenly Father and his plan for our happiness. Some of the most beautiful truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ are illuminated inside our holy temples.

Many people criticize us for our strict requirements to enter the temple. The fact is, we do this out of reverence and respect for the Lord. The temple is the house of God and we want to keep it unspotted from the world. However, we invite all people to learn about the temple and others of our beliefs here and here. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the blessings of the temple, but only after sincere repentance, baptism, and diligent preparation. These steps help individuals who go to the temple to be clean and ready for the blessings that await them.

I testify that the temple is the house of the Lord. I have felt the peace and strength that come from regular temple attendance. I know that the Lord wants his house to remain pure and clean.

I invite everyone, LDS and non-LDS alike, to help us protect our temples. You can go to http://www.hbo.com/apps/submitinfo/contactus/submit.do?title=GeneralInformation&questiontype=generalInformation&questiontype=general to let HBO know how you feel about their TV show.

"Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart" --Psalm 24: 3-4
