Somerset

I realized I never posted any pictures of Somerset (other than the few that made it into the 20 truths and a lie) and now I'm in Nottingham!

So, here's a few pictures from Somerset. Nottingham will be soon to follow (if my tempermental internet stays connected long enough for me to post-- it's more fickle than the weather in Utah!)

Staplegrove Lodge-- my Bed and Breakfast in Taunton

I finally remembered that I have a self-timer. Now you actually get to see ME again!
This is the nicer of the two rooms I stayed in at Staplegrove (the cheaper one was already booked for part of the week, so I had to move to the nicer one for a few days, then move back . . . sigh . . . such a sacrifice to have to stay here!)

St. Mary Magdalene Church in Taunton. This is where our ancestor, James Criddle, was christened (as well as all of his siblings). How cool is that?

A cute English cottage. I couldn't get the sun at a better angle, though.

I think this was actually part of the path from my B&B into Dorchester, but I like it so much I'm letting it stay on this post anyway.
STOGUMBER
Since I had so much time to kill (thanks a lot, Somerset Archives!) I took a trip up to Stogumber where our Criddle ancestors lived (before they came to Taunton).

To get up to Stogumber, I got to take a steam engine. Jacob would have loved it! They even had a whole train museum at the station. It had all sorts of cool artifacts, and even a model train that ran on tracks (which brought back fond memories of my pediatrician, Dr. Clayton's office).

'Cause if you blink, you'll probably miss it.

Stogumber (the outskirts)

St. Mary's church in Stogumber (I've noticed they're not very creative about naming their churches around here-- every other one is St. Mary's!) where the Criddles definitely went to church.

Scenery in Stogumber

So, I also finally remembered that I can take pictures at arms length. (How I could be Becca's sister and still have forgotten that, I don't know!) Hence, you get to see my lovely windblown hair after a couple of miles of walking through pouring rain.

WHAT???? I missed my train AGAIN?????

(Okay, not really-- but this is what happens when I get bored. I must be Becca and Heather's sister.)

Nottingham, here I come!

How COULD you be Becca and Heather (and Suzy, and Krista's) sister and have forgotten that trick?! Jacob did love looking at all those train pictures, and I liked remembering good old Dr. Clayton's office train! England looks so beautiful. I love the pic of you hanging out on your bed, waiting for the timer to go off!

Looks lovely! :) I went to Dr Clayton and Dr Johnson's office as a kid too! I loved the train there!

What I wonder is if you're planning on a train in YOUR house when you have children?
